Test-driven usability, evangelism and mentoring
The Rapid Prototyping Group at LIC develops and tests new concepts for farmer productivity software. Findings and recommendations are presented to the wider company for commercialisation.
As a member of this team, I have helped to introduce formal UX methods such as usability testing and contextual enquiry, mentoring younger team members and creating examples to share with the wider company via an internal blog.
I have also acted as a UX designer, creating wireframes for new prototypes, as well as using LEAN methods to help prioritise new features and group them into useful products.
Highlights have included conducting a 2-week diary study, observing the habits of around 20 staff across 5 farms, and pitching (successfully) a new app concept for commercialisation.
This role involves travelling all over New Zealand to observe, interview and test new designs with dairy farmers.
